2009 calendar by noa bembibre

I have the 2008 Cats Let Nothing Darken Their Roar calendar by Helsinki designer Noa Bembibre and she has announced that the 2009 edition will be released soon. The calendar, now in its fourth year, is smaller than past editions, but the same sort of quirky phrases and bold typography remain the same. The calendar is ribbon bound with tear-off sheets in an edition of 500. Get one from Noa (for 32 euros, which is about $42) or Kiosk (for $35).

ceramics by zuzana licko

Who knew that type designer Zuzana Licko made ceramic vases?! Her one-of-a-kind, wheel-thrown vases feature an assortment of colorful glazes applied to various shades of stoneware. Heights range from 3 to 11 inches. You can buy the two above for $36 and $70, but there are so many to choose from (and there's probably one for you even if you're on a budget). They go fast, so visit Emigre to get one.

heidi merrick fall 08

Fantastic color and contrast in these pieces from Heidi Merrick's fall collection. I like the whole peach/orange with blue/turquoise color combo she has going on. Pretty!

the small stakes

I've been a fan of the screen-printed posters by the The Small Stakes for a couple of years now. The independent design studio was founded in 2003 by Jason Munn, who masters in simple, eye-catching design. His posters are reasonably priced too, they range from $25 to $50.

little lambie

For a limited time, you can get these Little Lambie plush sheep at Bath & Body Works, either free with a $15 purchase or alone for $8. Kind of cute, right? They're super-soft and would be great for kids. Bath & Body Works suggests spraying them lightly with pillow mist before going to sleep for a super-calming snuggle. The sheep are also available in two more colors: cream with brown or cream with pink.

Enamoured by these cool, little letterpressed clocks by Sesame Letterpress. Sesame is a Brooklyn design and print shop run by the married team of Matt Heindl and Breck Hostetter. These clocks are available through Cursive New York or you can contact Sesame directly to buy (or trade for) some of their goodies.

Katie Henry of madebyhank creates some of the most charming bags I've ever seen (just look at the totes and clutches pictured above!). Her bags are made with mixed textures and patterns from vintage or thrift store finds and repurposed clothing. Every item is handmade and one-of-a-kind. I love that the tags come with an animal figurine attached and how the madebyhank logo is sewn freehand onto each item, adding to each bag's uniqueness. Purchase madebyhank bags: madebyhank.etsy.com.

raquel aparicio

I was introduced to the work of Raquel Aparicio last year and just barely re-discovered her stuff again. Her illustration style is really distinct and has appeared in several books and magazines, including The New York Times Magazine and Nylon. She currently lives in Spain.

loyal loot: log bowls

Loyal Loot Collective makes these amazing bowls from reclaimed trees (that have fallen or been cut down due to infrastructure, re-landscaping, droughts, or stormy weather) and contrasts the rough look of the bark with a rich, high-gloss finish.
